Information on caravan weights and weight-related specifications (NEXT)

When selecting and configuring your caravan, you should always bear in mind that each caravan is only designed by the manufacturer for a maximum permissible total mass, which must not be exceeded while travelling. The applicable legal provisions on caravan weights, which we have summarised for you below, are based on the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/535 of 31 March 2021, which applies uniformly throughout the European Union. Please read the following information carefully before selecting and configuring your caravan. If you have any questions, please contact your NEXT dealer.

1. The technically permissible maximum laden mass

The ‘technically permissible maximum laden mass’ is the maximum weight specified by the manufacturer that your caravan may have when loaded and travelling. Please bear in mind that exceeding the technically permissible maximum mass while travelling can lead to a safety risk and is punishable by fines in many European countries. We therefore recommend that you weigh your caravan before every journey and ensure that the technically permissible total mass is not exceeded. You can find the technically permissible maximum weight specified by the manufacturer for each base frame in the technical data.

2. The mass in running order

The ‘mass in running order’ is the weight of the standard, empty caravan according to the manufacturer's specifications, which includes the following items:

  • the standard equipment of the caravan according to the manufacturer's specifications,
  • the mass of the body, the towbar and the tools,
  • the 100% full fresh water tank (25 litres),
  • the water heater filled to 100%,
  • the toilet flush tank filled to 100%,
  • a 100% full steel gas cylinder with a weight of 12 kg (filling quantity: 5 kg).

The mass in running order is also specified for each floor plan in the technical data.

Please note, however, that these are calculated values from the type approval procedure, which are subject to legally permissible tolerances of up to ± 5%, which in turn can have a direct influence on the remaining payload and payload of the designated caravan (see also 4.).

Example:

Mass in running order according to technical data805 kg
Legally permissible tolerance of ± 5%± 40 kg
Legally permissible range of mass in running order764 - 845 kg

The legally permissible range of the mass in running order is also specified in the technical data.

As the legally permissible tolerances can influence the remaining payload and the payload of the individual caravan, you should already consider the permissibility of such tolerances when configuring your caravan.

Example:

If the caravan from the above example has legally permissible tolerances of + 1% for the mass in running order, this increases from 824 kg to 832.3 kg, which reduces the payload and the remaining payload of the caravan by 8.3 kg.

3. The actual mass of the caravan and the standard/special equipment

The ‘actual mass’ of the caravan includes the mass in running order and the factory-fitted optional equipment.

The ‘standard equipment’ describes the basic configuration of a vehicle with all legally prescribed equipment features. This also includes all equipment fitted as standard. Detailed information on the standard equipment for each layout can be found in the configurator.

The ‘optional extras’ include all equipment that is not part of the standard equipment and is fitted to the caravan ex works under the manufacturer's responsibility. However, accessories that are installed by you or a dealer after the caravan has been delivered from the factory are not considered optional extras. You will also find details of the optional extras that can be ordered ex works in the configurator.

It is important to note that the installation of optional extras always leads to a reduction in the payload and load capacity of the caravan (see also 4.). The maximum dimensions of optional extras that can be ordered ex works for each caravan and layout (see also 5.).

4. The (minimum) payload and the payload

The ‘payload’ of a caravan is determined by subtracting the mass in running order and the mass of the optional equipment from the technically permissible total mass. For caravans, the payload generally corresponds to the ‘remaining payload’.

Example:

Technically permissible total mass1,000 kg
Mass in running order according to technical data805 kg
Mass of the selected optional equipment 0 kg
Remaining payload (payload) 195 kg

Please note, however, that the payload and thus also the remaining payload may be reduced accordingly due to legally permissible tolerances of up to +5% for the mass in running order (see also 2.).

European legislation stipulates a fixed ‘minimum payload’ for caravans for luggage and other objects that are not part of the factory-fitted optional equipment. This is to ensure that you can transport your personal luggage, such as clothing, toilet and kitchen equipment, food, camping equipment or toys, without exceeding the technically permissible total mass when loaded.

This minimum payload is calculated as follows for caravans:

Minimum payload in kg ≥ 10*(n + L)

n = maximum number of sleeping berths and

L = body length of the vehicle in metres

Example

For a caravan with 3 sleeping berths and a body length of 4.60 metres, the minimum payload is 76 kg (10*[3+4.60]).

Information on the number of sleeping berths can be found in the technical data for each layout.

Please note that the configuration of your caravan must not fall below the legally prescribed minimum payload. If the actual vehicle mass is increased by the selection of optional extras to such an extent that there is no longer sufficient free mass between the actual vehicle mass and the technically permissible total mass for the legally prescribed minimum payload, you must either increase the load on the vehicle or deselect optional extras in order to continue with the configuration and ordering process.

Make sure that the technically permissible gross vehicle weight is not exceeded by asking your NEXT dealer if necessary.

5. The maximum mass for optional extras

To ensure that the technically permissible total mass of our caravans, taking into account the mass in running order and the legally prescribed minimum payload, is not exceeded by the installation of optional extras, we have limited the installation of optional extras by the manufacturer and defined a ‘maximum mass for optional extras’.

This maximum mass for optional equipment is calculated by subtracting the mass in running order and the minimum payload from the technically permissible total mass.

Since the mass in running order as a calculated value is subject to legally permissible tolerances of up to ± 5% and the occurrence of these tolerances can lead to an actual shortfall of the minimum payload, we include the legally permissible tolerances in the maximum mass for optional equipment as a precautionary measure. Special equipment features of country variants and special models that are not part of the standard equipment are also taken into account.

The maximum mass for optional extras is shown for each layout in the technical data.

Example:

Technically permissible total mass1,000 kg
Mass in running order according to technical data805 kg
Legally permissible tolerance of + 5%+ 40 kg
Mass in running order, taking into account the legally permissible tolerance845 kg
Minimum payload 76 kg
Maximum mass for optional equipment79 kg
Remaining payload (payload) in total155 kg

Legend

1. The mass in running order was determined in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2021/535, taking into account the standard equipment of the caravan according to the manufacturer's specifications, the 100 % full fresh water tank (25 liters), the 100 % full toilet cistern and a 100% full steel gas bottle weighing 12 kg with a filling capacity of 5 kg. This is a calculated value that is subject to legally permissible tolerances of up to +/- 5 % (see parenthesis). Since the occurrence of legally permissible tolerances has a direct effect on the remaining payload, these tolerances must be taken into account when configuring the vehicle.

2. The maximum mass for optional extras is a value calculated for each floor plan, which is used to limit the mass of the optional extras that can be ordered from the factory. This is to ensure that the legally prescribed so-called minimum payload is maintained. The maximum mass for optional extras was calculated on the basis of the “mass in drivable condition (+5%)”.

3. The manufacturer is permitted to use alternative tire sizes.

4. The technically permissible maximum laden mass is the total mass determined by the manufacturer that must never be exceeded when driving.

5. The wheel arch clearance is identical for all weight variants.

6. The payload and the remaining load capacity can be reduced accordingly due to legally permissible tolerances in the mass in running order of up to + 5%.

7. Size: 430 x 150 x 240 mm

8. Size felt basket: 300 x 180 x 180 mm, size cushion: 300 x 600 mm

Important Notes

  • The product information and the price list contain the series status at the time of printing. Despite checking the contents, printing errors cannot be ruled out. We reserve the right to changes to equipment and product improvements during the course of the model year. Printing and photographic colour differences cannot be completely ruled out
  • Some of the models shown in the product information and in the price list contain optional extras or decorations that are not included as standard.
  • All dimensions and weights may vary by up to +/- 5 % due to the processing of natural materials. If accessories are fitted, the mass running order increases. Attachments on the
vehicle can affect the drawbar load. All dimensions are non-binding and are subject to minor changes.
  • Masses and weights are stated in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2021/535 unless otherwise stated in the catalogue, including technical data and price list.
    are included.
  • Attention: Axle and drawbar loads as well as compliance with the technically permissible total mass must be observed by distributing the load in the vehicle
to compliance with the permissible masses and loads.
  • The technically permissible total weight when loaded must not be exceeded under any circumstances. If necessary, please ask your Fendt caravan dealer.
  • Equipment can influence the payload or the payload capacity by increasing/decreasing the tare weight. Please note that this may reduce the payload, depending on the equipment.
  • Selecting an awning based on circumferential dimension may not be sufficient under certain circumstances. The specified circumferential dimension only applies to awnings that are fully inserted into the existing piping strip of the caravan. The overall dimensions may vary due to special equipment, tyre size and load. We recommend that you measure the
caravan individually in order to determine the exact dimensions for the awning design.
  • The side walls of caravans, just like the front/rear walls and roof superstructures, are almost exclusively manufactured using the so-called full sandwich construction method. The
advantages of this sandwich construction are good heat and cold insulation, low weight and high stability. Unfortunately, however, the use of different materials such as wood, PU
strips, insulation material, GRP or aluminium sheet and the associated different degrees of expansion of the materials used can lead to tolerance deviations. The characteristics vary depending on the weather and season. Particularly in the transitional periods from summer to cooler autumn, from warm days to cool nights, these characteristics can be far more noticeable than may be the case at constant temperatures. The GRP or aluminium sheet expands when it is warm and contracts when it is cold. The materials underneath, the insulation material and the wood or PU mouldings do the same, but not to the same extent and not at the same speed. From a physical point of view, this is a completely normal process. With textured sheets, these phenomena are not as noticeable as with smooth sheets, as the uneven surface (nubs, hammer marks) minimises reflections. However, production-related tolerances and any associated marks or optical irregularities cannot be avoided here either. When repairing the bodywork of caravans, these tolerances, which may arise due to the mix of different materials used, are just as unavoidable as during the production of the vehicles. The manufacturer's quality standard should also be the benchmark for assessing the quality of repairs. There are currently no generally recognised specifications for tolerances and test procedures. In conclusion, it should be noted that waviness, markings or optical irregularities are unavoidable both on new vehicles and in the event of repairs, but neither the stability nor the functionality or tightness of the vehicle are impaired as a result.
  • The manufacturer grants a 6-year warranty on the tightness and body connections of the caravan in accordance with the warranty conditions. For this purpose, the vehicle must be presented to the authorised caravan dealer every 12 months. The leakage checks must be carried out every 12 months and are subject to a charge.
  • With the publication of this price list, all previous price lists lose their validity. The prices are recommended retail prices ex works Mertigen including
